    Sardarni Harbans Kaur (1926-1977)

Sardarni Harbans Kaur (1926-1977) and Giani Harbans Singh (1919-2022) were survivors of the violence around partition of India. They migrated from Kahuta, Rawalpindi now in Pakistan to Shimla in 1946. 

Giani Harbans Singh is the founder member of this trust that was founded in 1978 in the memory of his wife Sardarni Harbans Kaur who succumbed to cancer at an age of 51, while Giani Harbans Singh lived until 102.

A Few Words About Us

Sardarni Harbans Kaur Charitable Trust (SHKCT) was established in the year 1978 vide Trust Deed at Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India.


The trust is also registered under Section 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. 


On the Occasion of the celebration of 100th birth anniversary of Sardar Harbans Singh, husband of late Sardarni Harbans Kaur, in January, 2019, specific steps have been taken to boost up its charitable works in line with the objectives of the trust .


The main objective of the trust is to help the under privileged sections of society for their upliftment. The trust also renders educational support, motivation and encouragement of literature, arts and humanities and other activities.

  • Financial support to the  inmates of prisons for their hygiene during the lockdown and Covid outspread
  • Financial support to people suffering from medical ailments
  • Financial support to theatre artists and artisans who have suffered during the lockdown owing to the outspread of Covid 19
  • Financial support for publishing of books and important archival material with a specific cause for Sikhism or concerns related to marginalised communities 
  • Fruit and Milk Drive at the school of the slum dweller's family
  • Book reading and book collection with children of school of the slum dweller's family
  • Free shoes distribution to the needy
  • Free clothes and jackets distribution to the needy
  • Free notebook distribution to the needy
  • Skill based training
